New Mexico Hispanic Youth Symposium
University of New Mexico | July 9-12, 2008

After the Symposium

The Hispanic Youth Symposium is not just a one-time event: It is the first step on a pathway to college and career that is supported locally as well as nationally by an array of committed staff members!

Joining NM MESA

Staff members and students from NM MESA will be at the symposium, and after the program they will reach out to all the Hispanic Youth Symposium alumni to involve them in the NM MESA program in their home community!

With year-round programming, NM MESA provides students with opportunities for tutoring, college and career counseling, academic competitions and field trips, scholarships, leadership development, community service, parental support, and more.

An Electronic Outreach Campaign

In addition to joining NM MESA’s activities, all student alumni will receive emails from the national Hispanic College Fund office with information about scholarship opportunities, internships, college access information, and career profiles and opportunities. These emails will continue indefinitely.

Just a Phone Call Away

Students will connect with Hispanic College Fund staff during the symposium and make friendships and support networks that will last a lifetime. The Hispanic College Fund staff are always available by telephone or email to answer questions and provide resources to any student at any time.

Mentors and Volunteers Have a Lasting Impact

A key component of the Hispanic Youth Symposium is the involvement of the community volunteers and college “near peer” advisors who work with and speak to the students - 90% of Hispanic Youth Symposium alumni report leaving the symposium with a mentor. These relationships remain long after the symposium ends, providing the students with additional support as they progress through their educational pathway.
