About the Program

The Hispanic College Fund is proud to announce that it is once again partnering with New Mexico Math Engineering Science Achievement (NM MESA) and the University of New Mexico CEOP College Prep Programs to deliver this program.
About the Program

The Hispanic College Fund is partnering with New Mexico MESA and the University of New Mexico CEOP College Prep Programs to bring the Hispanic Youth Symposium to New Mexico for the third consecutive year! 100 local high school students and 150 community volunteers will come to the campus of University of New Mexico from June 15th-18th for a four-day, three-night program that allows them to develop a network of peers and mentors, learn about resources and tools for college, and develop a long-term career vision.
Competitions will be held for $2,000, $1,000, and $500 scholarships in art, speech, and talent categories. The symposium only requires a $10 personal investment fee from the students.

A Year-Round Program

Following the symposium, all students will automatically become part of the New Mexico Hispanic Youth Institute year-round programming, where the Hispanic College Fund and New Mexico MESA staff will work closely with the symposium students and community partners to deliver information and programming that reinforces the themes of college, career, and community. The Hispanic College Fund will also stay in electronic contact with the students, providing them ongoing information about scholarships, internships, and college application deadlines as they are available regionally and nationally.
The Hispanic College Fund ensures students who participate in the Hispanic Youth Symposium become part of a network that supports their educational and professional aspirations indefinitely.

Investing in the Community
The New Mexico Hispanic Youth Institute will cost around $187,000 to run, and 87 cents from every dollar raised go to support direct costs (including student meals, lodging, classroom space, and supplies) and staff that make the symposium a success.
