Community Volunteers

Volunteers are crucial to our program. In fact, we count on the participation of approximately 200 volunteers at the symposium! We need your help for everything from classroom setups to workshop facilitation to program organization.

College Resident Assistants

WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS SUMMER?

Volunteer as a Resident Advisor (RA) this summer at Hispanic Youth Symposia nationwide and help change the lives of underserved high school students.

What is it?

The Hispanic Youth Symposium is a four-day, three-night summer program that provides underserved high school students with the tools and resources they need to become motivated to graduate high school, go to college, and pursue a professional career.

During the program, Resident Advisors will:

  • Live on campus for 5 days and 4 nights
  • Be assigned to mentor and supervise a cohort (familia) of 8 - 10 students
  • Facilitate workshops, participate in panels, answer students’ questions, and engage students in discussions about college and the professional world

TrainingResident Advisors will be trained via webinars and conference calls prior to the symposium. One full day of intensive training will also be provided on-site the day before students arrive.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate (junior or senior), graduate student, or recent college graduate with 1 - 3 years of professional experience
  • Good communication, leadership, and management skills
  • Responsible, reliable, and able to follow directions from leadership team
  • Team player
  • Able to commit to living on campus for 5 days (all expenses paid)
